About Terre Haute, IN - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Terre Haute is the county seat of Vigo County, and this Indiana city has a population of approximately 60,800 residents. It is located along the western border where the state meets Illinois, and it calls itself the capital of the Wabash Valley. Terre Haute is well known for being a college town, as Indiana State University, Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana, the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College are all located here. Major employers in the community include Advics, Taghleef Industries, Sony DADC, and Bemis Company.
Terre Haute is a major city in the region, so there are a variety of attractions located here. Museums are especially popular, with some of the most notable options including the Children’s Museum of Terre Haute, the CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center, and the Halcyon Contemporary Art Gallery. Shopping enthusiasts may like a trip to the Honey Creek Mall, while sports facilities include the Terre Haute Action Track and the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course. Other events and performances are held at the Indiana Theatre and the Hulman Center.
The climate of Terre Haute is characteristic of a humid continental zone with relatively high temperatures. During the summer, average highs in July, the year’s hottest month, reach about 88 degrees. Without access to a home air conditioning system, these conditions could become dangerous, especially for the elderly and people living with chronic medical issues. At the very least, the high heat can become extremely uncomfortable, and a central air unit will make the season more bearable.
Winters in Terre Haute are cold, with daily highs in January reaching the upper-30s. While snowfall tends to be low with the area only accumulating about a foot of snow each winter, overnight low temperatures fall into the teens, so it is crucial that homeowners invest in a heat pump or furnace. Even without precipitation, conditions can become dangerous without these appliances.
